Chemical burns (which probably resulted in the sores) are pretty common side-effects of relaxing textured hair. Of women who have had their hair relaxed, it's very normal to have experienced at least one chemical burn, and while it's painful and kind of crazy, it's not seen as being abnormal. I definitely wouldn't

I had a catfish reuben once, so freaking good!

The Harvard vs. UMass is also a little dubious because UMass Amherst at least is pretty expensive. I know more than a few people off the top of my head (myself included) who went to private colleges because they cost significantly less than the price of in-state tuition at UMass Amherst.

The Tom Haverford bit is also explained by him changing his name from a traditionally Indian name to an anglo one in order to get into government. He was really irritated when Barack Obama became president without having to change his...

MID-RISE FO LYFE!

I think the real problem is two-fold:

I mean, those are the excuses that people always use and they vary in believability. But the point is, this discourse does exist, and has existed for a long time. Just because it has failed to reach mainstream notice until Girls came along doesn't mean that it didn't exist before then.

People do say that. People also say Friends, and HIMYM are whitewashed, because they are. It just happens that most of the people who say it are PoC.

Here is my actual problem with the numbers, yes, only 13% of the population is black. But that is the population of the entire United States, from NYC to Bangor, Maine. I would challenge that shows and movies disproportionately take place in cosmopolitan places such as New York, LA, Boston, Chicago, etc. And the

I use both hormonal bc and the pull out method cus, you know, paranoia...that means I'm fine, right?

I'm so confused, it seems like you are agreeing with me so I don't really understand your last sentence...

Okay then, let's bring 'thou' back!

Exactly. I use y'all because 'ye' is pretentious.

That is what I absolutely hate about my name and refuse to share a lot of stuff publicly. If you know my entire name, you know my entire life. I once dated a guy with one of the most common names in the world and was always so jealous of the anonymity that came with it.

To be fair, Lena Dunham is on a well-known cable series while Issa Rae is on a well-known Youtube series...but yeah it's a little funny.

Hahaha, me either! I WILL BE AS WILLFULLY NON-COMPLIANT AS I WANT!

You can more or less non-compliant. Which (in my opinion) is in part why women who wear their hair natural were/are seen as being so radical. It's like, "well you were never really going to be compliant to white beauty standards, but did you have to be so willfully non-compliant?"

Or the fact that people connect the perception that more men are becoming weight/diet/style conscious with the increased visibility of gay men.

That also made me side eye...like, if the point was that ugly sexuality is something that should get praise, then that is interesting. But to connect ugly sexuality to Miley Cyrus's twerking is all kinds of problematic. When I think of someone who does ugly sexuality I think of Lady Gaga, not Miley Cyrus.

Yes, it is a private liberal arts college (liberal arts schools in the U.S. in general tend to skew female).
