I don’t think the experiment works unless they are close to the participants. Unlike a scientific experiment, this is a humanity experiment and that requires human connection. If Tahani hadn’t genuinely connected to John, he wouldn’t have made the changes he did.

I mean jokes about death, cannabalism etc... are common in my household too, but we still acknowledge that’s dark humor. We don’t go “suicide, what a wonderful phrase, it means no worries for the rest of your days” or whatever and not think, hmm yeah that’s a little morbid. 

Have to agree. Either give in or don’t but don’t whine about being “forced”. Your kids don’t force you to do things, you make the choice to do them, whether to avoid a scene or whatever. Curious as to how you come to that conclusion? Puppies and kittens deserve love.
