Falling Off

My wife and I loved it because it felt like a throwback. A quiet movie driven not by what happens but how the characters interact and react.

Apparently Dominic Sessa (who played Angus) is only 21 and was an actual student at the prep school they were using for filming! Maybe preppies just age faster or something.

Yeah, it’s not an *original* movie by any means. But it is an extremely well-delivered movie by every regard.

Looking through the stuff, it seems like there are a lot of technical similarities but the subtext of the scenes are entirely different. One of the most laughable claims is that the scene where Angus receives a B on his History exam is copied from the scene in Frisco where the main characters looks at a copy of On The

“Wait a minute! The Holdovers is about a hard-hearted character finding a new lease on life through caring for a kid? That was my idea!” — the writers of Gran Torino, Up, True Grit, St. Vincent, Dennis the Menace, Logan, Leon, Shane, The Royal Tenenbaums, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2

Not sure what to think about this one. A lot of people on Twitter (take that with a huge grain of salt) say they’ve read the Frisco screenplay and it’s nothing like The Holdovers, while others making the same claim say they’re practically identical. I’m literally watching The Holdovers right now and like it so far.

I suspect you may have missed that after what some felt was unjustified criticism of the first couple episodes, someone set up an entirely new subreddit, TDNightCountry, that made it a point to moderate the dogwhistling and was generally filled with positive comments about the show. It apparently became the the

There was *plenty* to criticize about Season 4 that had nothing to do with gender or race.

There were multiple parts during the finale where I actually groaned or yelled at the screen. The scene where they find the ladder and climb up and realize they’re in the TSALAL station...and then it shows an exterior showing the TSALAL station, as if it’s some grand reveal. Like YES, CLEARLY that’s where they are,

Especially since the micoorganisms being presented as a weird mysterious unknown entity gave them a pretty convenient excuse to explain what was happening with all the supernatural stuff. Instead the supernatural stuff is just...there?

How on earth did this deserve an A- grade? How much were you paid?

The first 5 episodes of this season prepared me for the most inane and embarrassing limp over the finish line. Glad to say it didn’t disappoint in that regard. I'll endeavor to never upset the cleaning staff again. Season 5 when?

Next season on True Detective

Judging by all the praise it’s gotten from critics, I’d say you’re in the majority. I personally thought most of the season was silly bordering on unintelligent, especially compared to season 1. Acting was good, the story was ridiculous. I know there’s a way to write a good “native peoples fight a corrupt and unjust

Everyone hates Bill Maher and no one watches his show and at the same time everyone also seems to know every thing he says and every position he takes.”

He’s a self-satisfied elitist with notable bigotries that he thinks aren’t bigotries because he thinks they’re backed by “logic”, as opposed to the “emotional” response of his detractors to his bigotries. An unreasonable ass calling everyone else unreasonable asses, this aligns him in the minds of many with the

People don’t watch his show BECAUSE he says such stupid things that make people hate him. I watched his show for years and stopped precisely because of the constant stream of nonsense coming from him. And that was a few years ago even.

Kanye not getting aired AND less Bill Maher out on the airwaves? Man, what an absolute win!

It’s not enough to quietly not air it, he wants everyone to praise him for not airing it, and then maybe air it anyway. What a prince.

Translation: He’s going to air it after this announcement gets more traction.
