They do a good job of turning typing time into dramatic beats, too. I don't think a lot of the text conversations they have would work as well face-to-face because the pauses and uncertainty while awaiting the response would feel off, but as texts they are well-paced

Yeah I remember creeping through wheatfields late at night and feeling palpable relief when it was just some floaters and snakemen that popped out of a barn suddenly. (Also putting downed comrades and unconscious aliens in my backpack. I can't remember why, but surely there was a reason.)

I'm not sure if this is true, but I'd imagine The Witcher goes on sale more frequently and perhaps at better prices on GOG, because CD Projekt owns them too. I got mine pretty cheap on there and they threw in some DLC as lagniappe.
