Yeah, when you already have a 987, there’s no reason to go with another two door or performance car. The allroad flare/claddings are one of the defining features for me and definitely wanted them vs going full paint option that a few others have gone with.
I know, right? When I first saw the first production rendering of the B9 allroad and I immediately fell in love. It was almost the same level of want as when the B8 A5/S5 came out. Yeah, it is a step down from the S5, but man... wagons FTW!
Yeah, I was waffling between a couple of Audi blues (including Kingfisher and Nogaro) and decided on Ara Blue when I saw this beauty at Audi Expo:
I still think I’m a bit more partial to blue... especially Ara Blue 🙃
Sprint Blue and Moro Blue were non-exclusive colors for their respective generations (Sprint Blue available I think from 2009-2011 for the coupe before going away). I was hoping that a lighter blue was available in stock when I picked up the B6 A4, but it still looked quite nice.
I mean... Utopia Blue at the golden hour or even bright sunlight is gorgeous and matches the allroad cladding like the allroad that I shot below:
When I was shopping for Audis, they only had a black and a blue A4 3.0 and quite a few red, silver, white and black A4 1.8T sedans. Since I needed to get rid of my ‘99 SHO that I had (didn’t want to deal with the walking/failing cam sprockets that were bound to happen) and the blue one had a light color interior…
Thanks! Before the B9 A4 allroad, I had a Sprint Blue B8 S5 coupe (V8 6MT) and a Moro Blue B6 A4 3.0 quattro. The B6 A4 went to my mom after I got the S5; but, it totaled in a crash last year. A Glacier White A3 quattro sedan took its place.
Alex was a regular at Portland Cars and Coffee and helped out with Ground Control when it moved to the current location. It was always a joy talking with him about cars or coding.
Totally agree on matte or natural finish wood. Love it in my B9 A4 allroad
Sad thing is, if you do a View Source on that site... it’s a WordPress site. Someone actually went to the trouble to muck up a theme like that.
My Ara Blue B9 A4 allroad (Audi exclusive paint order)
Longitudinal quattro systems starting with the B7 RS 4 and the MLB platform send 60% of the power to the rear and 40% to the front by default. This was a change from the 50%/50% front/rear split of the previous setup.
I was willing to pay the $3900 Audi exclusive paint option for my allroad to get it in a non-boring or a non-dark blue color. Thankfully, the Audi Club discount essentially wiped out about $3500 of the cost; so, I paid around $400-500 for the exclusive paint option: Ara Blue Crystal Effect.
Now, if only the car were a 3 series Touring, it would a tree on the 3.
It’s in the Mk3 Audi TT/TT S/TT RS
I’ll read their articles online and subscribed to MT On-Demand for Head 2 Head, Ignition, Epic Drives and for the motorsports events. I immediately fell in love with the chemistry between Cammisa and Leiberman, including the GS-F v CTS-V, NSX v GT-R and M6 GC and Alpina B6 GC episodes. That’s something that I could…
re: NSX “review”, I think it was rather light and felt like it was just filler for time. While I don’t expect to be Chris Harris or Rory Reid level in terms of depth, style and presentation; but, I think that Lieberman and Cammisa over at MotorTrend did a bang up job on talking about the tech, driving experiences and…
I didn’t learn how to drive stick until about 7-8 years ago (late 20s) when I was pondering about buying a car with a stick. So, a co-worker got me into his 80s or so Escort wagon and gave me a few lessons. I got the hang of it and was able to drive around the block.
