Likewise — I just bought a decade-old 335i to daily due to the negative attention I receive with the Porsche.

Classic example.....
I thought his comment about bumble dates was hilarious. I recently got a Cayman and I never mentioned it on a bumble date and usually didn’t even drive it to the date (I have 3 cars, didn’t want to street park the Cayman downtown). I didn’t mention it because I didn’t want to be ‘that guy who drove a Porsche’. I did…
It doesn’t have to be a real marriage. You could have one of those Hollywood marriages where you’re only doing it for the publicity.
I wish they would shorten the gears right from the factory, at least as a factory option for those of us not doing top speed runs on the Autobahn/in the Nevada desert.
The only comments I get are similar to the Doug DeMuro article from a few years ago. People like to ask how much it costs, or how fast it is, or if I want to trade for their Civic.
Yep this. If you can afford nicer things than your coworkers, and you don’t want them to hate you, then keep your toys a secret.
As a former owner of a Porsche (997 C2S) that underwent the “full Fabspeed treatment,” I can gleefully testify as to the sheer joy their work and know-how wring from these cars. Alex and co. Even threw me a free tshirt after I had to drive out there on a Friday evening so they could undo some dealer-induced…
Not just Porsche.... I live in a area where the average person drives a 50k plus truck & have had multiple “must be nice” comments about my 15k s2000 & 10k Audi s6. Lol
The shift in perception is real. Once they find out you have a pcar, aquaintances start talking differently to you and whisper behind your back.
I agree. However if you drive a panamera, judgment awaits you both here and in the afterlife.
“Yeah dickhole, must be nice to waste $50k on a truck...”
base 2.9 engines are multi-port... yay, no IMS...
I’m seriously considering buying one, and I’m worried about that exact issue. So how much does it really bug you and affect you? Do you get comments?
Will you and Mr. Regular just get married already?
Can’t speak for IMS, but it looks like the R and GT4 have the same gear ratios.
I had a 2006 Cayman S at 26, everyone thought it was more expensive than it was, which was frustrating because I bought it as a drivers-car, not a status symbol. It happened in the most unlikely of places too. Like even as my non-ez pass owning self would stop to pay tolls with the plebes; while I was in their 20…
As a 20-something year old who drives a Cayman S, I totally get what he’s saying. People judge hardcore and despite me loving every minute of my car, there’s a part of me that feels bad about the perception people have of me in it.
It’s chieves. Police chieves. :-)
We need more police chiefs like this guy.
