I think you’re giving the SNP too much credit. The bill isn’t even very popular in Scotland, it’s just the latest wedge issue that the party is using to pick constitutional fights with Westminster by passing laws they know are illegal and then daring London to try and stop them.

I think ‘massive’ is a strong word. The legislation is being halted pending judicial review on the basis that it may have impacts beyond the scope of the Scottish Parliament’s powers. This happens all the time, and the only reason anyone cares is because the SNP pushed the law through in order to force exactly this

And like all the best all-American characters on screen, she’s a British actress.

One good thing is that outside the US the networks often just sell the rights to new shows to Netflix or Amazon when they dont have a local app, so weirdly it's easier to watch shows than in the US sometimes.

It’s a collaboration between various large British TV channels to fund a streaming service for the international market using a mix of their content.

I guess they're playing on the 'boys club' stereotype of British universities from 80 years ago when a nod from the right aristo was enough to get whatever you needed. These days it's as bureaucratic as anything else.

That’s got to be The Netherlands though, right? Having never actually won it.

Jersey (and the other Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man) is to the UK what Costa Rica is to the US.

Nah, the show had a super happy ending that tied up all the loose ends! The Six Kingdoms are ruled by a potentially infertile child with no interest in the mortal world, the most powerful remaining kingdom is ruled by a mercenary whose only friend is the last heir of the defeated power behind the last ruler, and the

Nobody ‘needs’ culture, colour or ornamentation of any kind, really. I long for the day when I can slope off to the factory in my shapeless grey boiler suit with my fellow production units.

Don’t worry, it’ll be over by Christmas

Different strokes, I guess.

Tolkien fan, GOT beginner here.

Yeesh, don’t remind me. I’m no armchair general, but I can still remember scoffing at Dany sending all her cavalry charging off into the darkness into an enemy they couldn’t see - with predictable results.

I think the odd title is a contrivance of the weird political situation.

Of the Hobbits I think Frodo was the only non-Aristocrat. The Bagginses were minor gentry from money, which was greatly enriched by Bilbo’s adventure to the Lonely Mountain, but only as a result of their descent from the Took family which actually WAS the local aristocratic lineage.

I’m a fan of the show and the lore, and I’m pretty happy with the whole thing, on the basis that we’re getting an adaptation at all. The source material is not particularly adaptation-friendly, and if it needs mucking about with to have it be a satisfying TV show, I’m ok with it because it doesn’t mean the source

This is something I’ve seen a lot of criticism over, but despite the fact that a lot of LOTR fans will be watching the show, realistically you have to write it as if a lot of the audience haven’s seen a 21-year-old (Fuck I’m old) nine-hour fantasy trilogy and treat them like idiots.

Props to the guy who shouts “IT’S FUCKING MATT BERRY”. I’d probably do the same.

For reference The Crown functions much as The State or The People does in the US, in that it's an abstract embodiment of society rather than the literal monarch. It's like saying the US owns the seabed around the US, not like saying that Joe Biden personally owns the sea bed.
