Speak softly and carry a big stick. The best defense you have is intimidation. Some punk still might try and attack you if you have a pistol. They would be less inclined to do so if you are staring then down with an AR.

Further reply, sorry for double post. What is commonly called a submachine gun is known to militaries as a PDW: Personal Defense Weapon. A small automatic weapon makes it very easy to defend your self.

I would think any gun is designed to kill. And it would be an excellent hunting weapon if chambered in .308/7.62. Chambered in .223/5.56, it would actually be terrible for killing. That round is designed to wound and thus tie up your enemues allies in dispensing medical aid.

You forgot lab fees. Even classes whose only equipment used are school computers have lab fees. And if you have a science major, expect a lab fee for most classes. In my experience lab fees are $100 to $200.
