If you’re interested in post-scarcity stories I would recommend the Culture novels by Ian Banks. (Use of Weapons and The Player of Games and so forth) Interesting stuff, and very well written. Not at all like Start Trek. More like the Stainless Steel Rat novels, but I think considerably better.
