I get that, but it’s far more detrimental and extreme than “sharing a connection”. Humans are groupish, and by instinct tend to pick a group and find an out-group to hate. “All the evil bastards in the out-group are sub-human and intent on destroying everything that is just and right in the world.”

I find it really bizarre that people self-identify with political parties. It’s about as logical as being a sports fan or brand loyal. If people voted on policy issues rather than party loyalty, you’d probably see more educated voting.
