The second season (what I saw of it) was less of a getaway story, and had more of a varied focus on the lives of slaves and former slaves. It covered drug use, PTSD, conflicts between abolitionists, and featured an entire episode based around a personal speech by Harriet Tubman.

Really? I always assumed they would replace the flashbacks with clips from season 1 starting in the fall. That's not gonna happen?

I admired what the show was trying to do, if I didn't always appreciate their execution. I also found the cast largely engaging. But I can understand why Netflix didn't proceed here. But I agree that I would love to read a story about the making of the Get-Down one day.
