I know I was thinking that. Maybe just because I'm into photography and would especially appreciate the image potential of the new screen, but damn it sounds nice. Ever since the Verge described it as 'a glowing piece of paper' I've been sold.

I feel like of all the generations not to skip of the ipad, this would be the one. The display is pretty game-changing, IMHO.
I think you flipped your latter and former when describing gchat and facebook, unless facebook is a staple for the employed and gchat for students. #corrections
I think it has more to do with the connection speed than necessarily the app - I notice when I'm on university wifi it loads instantly, but on 3g quite slowly, on the same device.
I remember those days. It's unfortunate. Very few of the older guard is left
"Don't like the gallery layout? Click here to view everything on one page" leads to an article from this january, not this one.
Question: I've often heard about a bubble type effect, where users are shown things relevant to their interests in searches based on what they search (as in, 'god' would have different results for someone who frequents atheism blogs versus christian blogs). Is this based on search history, or something else in your…
I feel like this would all work a lot better with apple-quality touchpads. If PC manufacturers were forced to include those with their laptops instead of the often shitty ones they do include, a lot of the things like horizontal scrolling that I'm really leery of wouldn't be so bad.
I think we'll just be seeing a consolidation of the many options in the market, now that the focus and innovation is mostly shifting away from them. Consider that there are still new entrants, e.g. Vizio earlier this year.
He's probably referring to recently (it might still be going on, you can check) if you downloaded a beta build and uploaded a full 5 gb of files to test it, they would up your storage limits by 5gb
I know, I feel like people joke about it and accept it like it's just normal restaurant operation, but I don't think it's acceptable at all. If I caught someone spitting in my food I would probably try to deck them and raise hell with the restaurant - that's not something you do to somebody.
The Verge tested this recently, when they reviewed an MBA with win7 installed on it. Battery life dropped by about a third in their estimation.
Okay, guess I mixed my facts. I thought it hadn't been sold ever.
While I admire the ingenuity, I do have to wonder. I know I read somewhere that apple was considering offering a black macbook as a companion to the white back before the all-metal era, and they decided not to because they couldn't get a matte black finish that wouldn't wear thin or get greasy...
This is facebook, I'm sure they're going to be forcing everyone eventually. They're just letting it be opt-out for a while to quell the complaints
I was wondering about that. Lousy journalism on mashable's part, but I've come to expect that from them, honestly. I was hoping lifehacker might have done something more though.
If there is a god of the internet every youtube and yahoo news commenter would find this in their inbox tomorrow morning...
Anyone know a good source for overall longreads-style coverage of the tech blogging world? I feel like I didn't know about most of the articles and arguments mentioned here, despite each of these stories probably being some of the most important articles they've written all year. It's just that those articles on all…
I agree entirely. It's a shame too, because I had several long-running message threads that I really enjoyed sending back and forth with friends who live in different cities, every few days or once a week. Each message in the thread was long, well-thought out, and included responses to the one before it. Now there…
Nook would be good, because e-ink screens aren't backlit.
