You don’t have to watch any of them. But you don’t get to criticize them if you don’t watch them.
What makes the show so good is how it avoids many of the most common tropes...It’s got plenty, but less than most Sci Fi. If the worst things you can say about a show’s is that it feel like it was made in the 2010's I’d say they are doing something right.

Dark Matter felt amateur to me. Characters felt cookie-cutter. But that’s just my opinion.

I, too, have been intensively into scifi for many years, and The Expanse is to me easily the best series in the genre since Battlestar Galactica. I devoured all the books, and the differences between print and video…
