Is paying attention to marginalized people interfering with your economic anxiety? Sad!

Of course it’s not new. But in a way this is a perfect example of crisis=opportunity. People are finally paying attention to Native American activism and the issues that underpin it. I want to believe that attention will extend beyond this brief historical moment/issue.

James Gunn had little experience when he did Guardians of The Galaxy. Just a couple of low budget films, nothing near the scope of a “Marvel film”.

Except what you are describing is basically the attitude Hollywood has taken towards finding directors for the entire history of the medium, it’s ostensibly been a meritocracy forever, and there still is a serious lack of women getting hired to direct major films.

Its the Hillary pitch again, “I will be the best for the job, because Im a woman”

“They’re gigantic films, and you can’t come into them with essentially no experience.”

While I am sure many are tired of this sort of message, I am not. “Best” often equates to “similar to what came before” in the minds of studios and this reduces the diversity of voices that we hear. It’s great that producers seek out diverse backgrounds.

But it feels like a long shot at best and sadly, nothing more.

It’s almost as if they want a dumb populace. No that can’t be, that’s tin foil hat territory right?
