you’re right, I daily a certain German sports car with a targa roof and all I hear from my passengers is “it’s so low” and “it’s like a go kart” they aren’t being complimentary despite the fact it’s a 2 year old GTS

Same with Honda - Accords and Civics out the yinyang. And of course Hyundai, with Sonatas and Elantras. Kia’s K5 is downright decent looking, and not their only “regular car” either. Jettas are still a thing. Hell, in the EV space, the Model 3 is very much a plain jane sedan. If there were a lot of pent-up demand for

Toyota will sell you a Camry or a RAV4, for about the same price with about the same features. Through Q3 of this year in the U.S., over 100,000 more RAV4s were sold than Camrys. That’s what people want.

I always see the last part as a backwards N like the Nine Inch Nails logo.

This is good Jalopnik.

The Mini EV has never really been competitive. Not sure on the new models, but seems like one of those typically-GM moves “nobody bought it so we need to cut it”, when it was just poorly marketed and/or generally uncompetitive.

The Countryman SE barely gets 200 mi of range. So uncompetitive range + the Convicted Felon = failure.

It’s not just these EVs that will drastically jump in price. Right now other manufacturers are adding huge discounts to their EVs to make them competitive to the ones that are marked down. Take Hyundai for example- they’re offering a (what a coincidence) $7500 rebate on the Ioniq 5/6 and the Kona electric. That will

Stellantis has the platforms they need to bring all sorts of cars to the US, even EVs. They have a multitude of engine choices as well. All they have to do is pull a Buick and import the entire Opel line as Chryslers. Bring over all the Astras, Corsas, Fronteras, Grandlands, Mokkas, even the upcoming Manta. Chrysler

Trump’s lies killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. The level of stupidity is jaw dropping.

I just leased a plug in hybrid because $7,500 off the top of the lease and other incentives made it affordable. Leasing is something I never would have considered without these price cuts. Thanks Joe Biden.

I read at the time that Lewis did more laps than he was supposed to do. Lewis responded:

I had one for a month as a rental car. It was fine. It was not fancy or special. But it was completely fine. If they improved the gas mileage and made the third row easier to access it would be... fine.

I agree in principal, but sadly I think that Americans today would stay away in droves because everyone’s expectations are so high now and no one wants to look poor. I mean, look how many people out there are making horrible purchase decisions when they can’t cover next month’s rent?

I didn’t respond, but I think the K-car/Neon suggestion has some merit. Similar time of economic agita and flag-waving jingoism. If the proposed tariffs are implemented, that could really shake things up (terribly) and present a business case for a low-cost domestically produced vehicle. Or Honda & Toyota could just

The K platform worked well with engines that weren’t too big or too small. The 2.2L, despite its being a little coarser than the competition, could get 30-35 MPG easily with a stick, and with today’s induction systems and transmissions, 40 would be attainable.

In a classic hit ’em where they’re not move, I suggest a simple, friendly, utilitarian sedan that can be easily used, easily serviced and easily disposed of when the time comes to set it free. The kind of car that just isn’t around anymore. Like ...

Finally, a Jalopnik suggestion in true Jalopnik tradition! Good on ya, Tom!

LOL, it’s fine. Might not be the best for 2 up, but the OG GL500 only had 50. People are jaded with gaudy power numbers on new bikes

Those NT650s (Honda Hawk) were great bikes. I owned a couple VFRs (one of the best bikes ever) and a CB-1. Damn Honda had it going on.
