That still boggles my mind. Just like the fact that in Blue Velvet, she was actually the age of the character she played!

Yeah, which is why Hammond is such a better character in the film. Crichton had an obvious analog in the novel - it's Malcolm, the skeptical, witty iconoclast. Spielberg has one too, but it's Hammond, the dreamer, the enchanter, the guy who captivates people the world over. I think it's no coincidence that Spielberg

I'm still peeved about that. The T-Rex should be the hero, plain and simple. To dispatch it at the beginning with such indifference is insulting!

War-DO!!

Nice hat!

Yeah, and Muldoon just sort of drunkenly watches the whole thing, right? I like the film's version of Muldoon, but he's a lot of fun in the novel too.

True, but gosh, what a midpoint that is! All these years later, and I'm still in awe of that T-Rex sequence: the seamless integration of CGI and animatronics (as A.A. thoughtfully points out!), the slow burn with the approaching footsteps, the decision not to score the sequence, the GIANT HEAD COMING DOWN ON THE KIDS.

I also went through the Crichton bibliography while in middle school, and know which one was my favorite? Airframe, of all things.

If anything, he has an almost Shirley Jackson-esque view of the darkness lurking beneath suburbia!

The Terminal? Hell, I'll go to bat for Always!

YES, criminy, sometimes I can't even tell if the damn dog is telling a joke or not. I hope his owners eat him or something eventually.

The Curmudgeon deserves a Pulitzer or a Nobel or the Presidential Medal of Freedom for all he's done to bring lousy comics into the public consciousness.

Gosh, yeah, Marvin is unrelentingly vapid.

I'm with you Jimmy, there's something so dark and misanthropic about The Lockhorns that I can't help but admire it.

I'd say overall he's cut a fairly moderate figure, but you're right, it was more crisis-management (economically and Sandy-ly) than ideology that was ultimately emphasized.

I've enjoyed watching various media outlets do their damnedest to find the absolute least flattering photos of your dear Mayor!

YESSSSS. I too would read the hell out of your reviews, Little Emma.

Oh dear, my first downvote! I hope I didn't offend anyone too greatly.
