“What makes an 18 year old anymore capable of adult decisions than a 16/17 year old?”
“What makes an 18 year old anymore capable of adult decisions than a 16/17 year old?”
Not what happened here though.
“Los Angeles Police Department Officer Daniel Whitmore, who analyzed the event data recorder data from the Lamborghini SUV after the crash, testified that the vehicle’s speed was recorded at 86 mph five seconds before the impact with the driver’s foot “completely on the gas pedal…
Having dug into the articles around this case a little more, this is a case of rich parents. The original charge was in adult court (that’s how we find out he was involved in a street race with his girlfriend when this happened), his parents sued to have it moved to juvenile court. After that, they fought against…
“Hold on a sec: how could he “hit the wrong pedal” when there are only two in the car and the “wrong pedal” you are talking about is the one his foot was firmly planted at WOT?? (that’s “wide open throttle”?) You are making an excuse for the irresponsible rich kid, further evidenced by the following statement: “He’s…
Bullshit.
I completely agree that the solution isn’t medieval justice for all.
Yah. If you take away the “rah, rah, hate the rich” thing, a sentence of 4 years in jail is the STIFFEST penalty for involuntary manslaughter in Cali. And probation for a first offense is a standard penalty.
The punishment is too light, but this is probably not too far from the mark. We do make a distinction for juveniles and there has to be a line at some point between the two, even if everyone here thinks 17 is too old, and it’s definitely manslaughter, and not “what basically amounts to murder, as the author put it.
We had a baby on a street that had one sportbike squid and one Harley guy. Baby was frequently awakened.
Hey assholes, the dude with the El Camino next door has a vastly cooler toy than you, and he isn’t shaking the windows.
Granted, I think some of that stems from people sitting in the left lane, but passing should only be done in the left lane.
But if we take that attitude that some may never learn we’ll never make progress. Too many idiots still can’t figure out a 4-way stop. Roundabouts are just so much more efficient and proven much safer for preventing serious accidents. I actually got to design the (allegedly) second one installed in Virginia back in…
Preach. I’d love more roundabouts, even if some people suck at using them. They are all over the UK and Australia; traffic flows MUCH better.
Many countries I have been in have a greater culture of collective good and collective responsibility. We do not and it shows.
I WISH the US would adopt more roundabouts. I lived in Palm Desert for almost 7 years and they had a couple of roundabouts in higher traffic areas, and it just flowed so nicely.
“I often come across people who for whatever reason don’t like to be passed.”
For me - as a civil engineer working in transportation - it’s our undying need to put in a traffic signal or a 4-way stop where a roundabout is really the perfect solution. Do any amount of driving in Europe outside the main city centers, and you almost never come to a stop, you just flow from roundabout to…
cops are 90% of the worst things about road tripping in america. the other 10% is Ohio
Somehow well funded social services out there supporting people and helping just isn’t as glamorous or ego stroking as paramilitary drug squads kicking down doors. We’d lose a solid two thirds of drama shows and action movies if we defunded cops and funded social services too. If anyone is wondering why TV and Movie…
