For reasons that escape me (my family was fans of neither the Redskins or Raiders, nor lived anywhere near Tampa) my family had a crock-pot type glass bowl with the logo of Super Bowl XVIII on it. So much of the leftovers of my life were provided courtesy of this logo. Wanna warm up some baked beans? Super Bowl XVIII.

I think you hinted at this, but by working in an “entertainment-type” company you work with a lot of open-minded, creative types. I wouldn’t expect the same experience in law, manufacturing, baking/securities, airlines, hotels, etc. etc. etc.

Fair enough

Wasnt this Ghosn episode allegedly a rebellion of Nissan

Don’t ruin this awesome song with your awful take

On a certain level, you’re right. It’s no skin off my back. But it is stupid. Deeply, deeply stupid. And stupid needs to be called out to remind ourselves that A. no, this is not normal and B. we can do better than this.

Dude, it’s at the White House. That used to mean something. But hey, if you want to meet the President and eat like you’re having an after-game birthday party with your elementary school basketball team, go ahead.

Thank you thank you thank you. All of the stars for this.

Be careful what you wish for. The main specialty of old Nissan was called “going bankrupt” and I don’t think those Japanese folks in charge of ousting Ghosn have learned their lesson. With any luck, they’ll be under a different set of foreign management in no time.

It’s a lot better than it used to be, things have improved significantly in the past 10 years or so. Basically any large chain/restaurant should take credit. Still always want to keep cash on hand just in case, especially for smaller shops/restaurants, but really you can do a lot with just a credit card these days.

The general explanation I’ve heard is that being a “Christian” these days is more a cultural identity thing and less of a set of morals and beliefs.

Thank you for actual, useful information, and not just another hot take!

I think you’re on to something. If we are talking about 90s or earlier cars, then OP is correct. But this century, I think the gap has narrowed- Japanese cars slipped a little bit, and domestics are much improved. However, as has been previously pointed out on this site, it was too little, too late. Domestics just

Sure, let’s have another East-West automotive partnership! Renault-Nissan/Mitsubishi seems to be going so great right now.

Feels so weird to see a positive Charlotte Hornets article on Deadspin... but I’ll take it.

They’ll permit sticking out, until push comes to shove. In this case, it was likely Ghosn’s attempt to make a true merger between Renault and Nissan, and therefore bring French governmental control to Nissan. For that unpardonable sin, he had to go.

I appreciate this guy’s wacky sense of ambition but there is no way that I am spending a single dollar on that thing

Certain actors inside Nissan might have had motives of their own for wanting to oust Ghosn. Nissan is not being completely altruistic here... I wouldn’t say that their hands are completely clean in this.

If it’s modern-day Japan, they would just call a press conference, bow deeply before the cameras, say a few moushiwakegozaimasens, and get on with their day. Happens all of the time.

Good point, it’s certainly possible. Although I think in the case of the Toyota exec, it was so egregious that they had no choice but do to something [she mailed the drugs to herself and they were poorly hidden... of course customs would find them].
