Since they are not accruing interest, there is no upside to paying down student loans right now....Some people may have been reckless with their spending, but I think those of us that spent the money wisely are in a much better position than people that just kept paying down loans.

I think the REAL constraint on EV adoption is for people that don’t own a single family home.

In both scenarios you listed, install a charger, then have it be pay-to-charge, not unlike public charging. The charging rate will pay for the charger install and the electricity used.

Imagine someone with a student loan and a brand new car loan.

I think the bigger looming issue is student loan debt. Borrowers have enjoyed 0% interest and deferred minimum payments for 2+ years. Of those borrowers, how many have continued to pay their loans, hoping to get ahead? How many have splurged on needless other items assuming the windfall is going to last forever? I

But I bet most people are just paying the extra cash and not changing their driving habits at all, sadly.

I looked it up and at least Progressive says that hits by another car (even when you’re parked) would fall under Collision instead of Comprehensive.

You get a lot of flying Teslas?

what, you’re expecting someone to total your old clunker while it’s safely parked in front of your home?

Once they finally fix the pot holes near me - that I can only assume were caused by someone tossing hand grenades out of their vehicle

I can get behind this! I am currently 2 days remote and likely still need to be at the office at least 1 day a week for certain items but I could easily pick up another day or 2 remote. My wife is remote 4 days a week but also drives our gas guzzler. I filled that one up the other day for $120. Luckily that will last

Isn’t that the truth!

Don’t go assuming the insurance companies treat everyone the same in this lovely country.

While I did not buy an EV, I stopped commuting in my gas guzzling truck about 6 years ago. I was spending about $600/mo in fuel and was able to buy a good economy hatchback and keep the truck for less than the fuel savings. The only reason this gas spike has hit me harder than $83 is because my wife and I drive a lot

For an older Subaru with a new motor I’m guessing he only had liability insurance and thus no claim to be had. I feel for him.

Commuting home from Boston yesterday I had a Vermont plated car start flashing his high beams at me like crazy because I passed him on the right when he was doing 10mph under the limit with an open road in front of him. You’re a long way from home Toto!

$4.31 this morning in MA. Should be able to make it through the week on my current tank

If you’re not also in something that ways 9,000lbs, you’re much less safe with hoardes of these things flying down the road.

people buy these massive trucks and don’t know how the Hell to park them, or they straight-up just don’t care.

You would have to hit a major bump to eject any of those contents. The way aerodynamics work in an open bed, there is a small vortex of rotational air. It could easily pick up light objects like empty coffee cups but it wouldn’t be able to pick up a case of paper towels or a 10gal jug of milk.
