Netflix added Crazy Ex-Girlfriend last weekend so I expected iZombie et al. to come with it, but only Crazy Ex and Jane the Virgin are there. I know they're trying to build Emmy buzz for Crazy Ex so maybe that's why CW let those two shows go to Netflix so early.

You can't store arbitrary resolutions on DVD or Blu-Ray, so if the aspect ratio is wider than 16:9 or narrower than 4:3 the video has to be stored with the "extra" bars in the image.
Sometimes you also get the accursed non-anamorphic widescreen DVD, with bars all the way around if you watch it on a widescreen TV.

George_Liquor is right that NTSC and PAL are standards for encoding color in an analog video signal. What's probably happening is the player converts 480i / 60 Hz output to 576i / 50Hz and vice versa. Run of the mill players usually don't convert and might refuse to play the disc at all, even if it's region free.

In the last week or so I've noticed that sometimes my browser will freeze for a few seconds when I load pages here and some other sites. I assume it's a crappy script that pulls in ads or tracking cookies or something like that.
