You have no idea what actually happened as evidenced by the fact it was a Broncos player that got hurt, not a Pats player.

There is one major discrepancy here though:

All of my stuff has been very close together, so I don't know if you need to setup poles for the wires, but yeah you have to actually connect them.

It does, the problem I had though was that everything else used something I selected from the menu system, that was the first time it was just like “press this button to do the thing” and if you aren't aiming at the generator that line isn't there.

I spent 10 minutes or so trying to find wire in the crafting menus under power (and eventually everything else) before I saw it was a stupid button press.
