Agreed. There were a lot of minorities that were nominated and WON last night, but Chris Rock completely neglected them (aside from his racist Asian joke).

As some other have said, asking white people about race issues often appears to be a lose/lose position. It can come across insincere, patronizing, pandering, ignorant, or wrong, despite the interviewees intentions.
This is getting on everyone’s nerves in Hollywood. Asian American actors and filmmakers are rapidly becoming among the most vocal about issues of diversity, but are still the asses of jokes. Networks and studios still have meetings with the phrase “But Asian doesn’t sell” at the table.
The downside of this whole thing is that any actors and filmmakers of color who get an Oscar in the next couple of years will be treated by certain people like they only got it because the academy felt pressured to make sure some POC win.
I keep wondering how exactly it ended up being framed that way when I feel like there are a lot of people who have tried to be inclusive about it.
Also. Inarritu literally talked about diversity in his speech. He said this is a great opportunity to “liberate ourselves from all prejudice” to make sure the “color of our skin becomes as irrelevant as the length of our hair.”
He brought out Asian kids and made them stand there cluelessly while he made those jokes. That’s just shitty. Two kinds of racism don’t cancel each other out - I mean, those kids weren’t the Asians demonstrating for that ass.
That appears to be black code for “blacks only”...POC isn’t really a thing in the BLM community, from what I’ve seen.
I want to know how this has become a Black Issue and not a People of Color Issue. I thought the problem was that all the nominees were white, not that none of them were black.
Yep, and some people on twitter got mad that Asian Americans were mad and then called them anti-black. It was a whole mess lol. Not a good week for PoC solidarity, with the Peter Liang shitshow and now this.
Haven’t you heard? Anti-Asian racism is the racism that’s still ok! It never goes out of style!!!
What did black people talk about when Chris Rock brought up the Academy “accountants”? Or when a black man makes fun of a race that is even MORE underrepresented than his own is it cool?
Chris Rock is incredibly funny. He’s also had a long history of telling jokes that are racist, misogynistic, and homophobic. And now? He’s showing a lot of cracks, in that he’s kind of dumb.
They brought out “accountants” i.e two asian kids and a jewish kid and there was a joke about the Asians being good at math, and then one about child labour in Asian countries. Then Sacha Baron Cohen came on and made a Asians have Small Penises joke. Those were literally the only two times Asians were even mentioned.
Can we get a condensed clip of Asian people reacting to the jokes at the Oscars as well?
It honestly felt like he was making fun of people caring so much about the #OscarsSoWhite thing. I mean, technically, black folks complained about this even in the 60's. You can care about lynchings and then you can care about some other things as well.
That moment made me very uncomfortable - I was not okay with it, even though he wasn’t lying in what he said about their phones.
I’m just glad white and black people could finally come together over mocking Asian people.
Just like how women always carry the burden of fixing sexism and the patriarchy. We never seem to learn as a society - at least, not fast enough.
