yeah i used to work for a drugstore photolab and I can tell you even in the early 2000's people still didnt smarten up to the Polaroid for nekkids thing because every couple of weeks I would have to include the pre-printed note telling them that we couldnt print some of their pictures.

Id say another really good tactic is to stop buying cases that leave what I have dubbed the "douchebag hole" on the back part of the case - you know that part of unprotected area just to show off the apple logo.

THIS. I use the transit directions a couple times a month so it wouldnt break my back to loose them but at the same time im in a city that isnt as big as NYC, LA, Chicago so there arent a lot of 3rd party solutions for me.

i just found one of those crappy cloth camera bags that bit in my backpack and use that. this way if i just need my camera I just take that, if I need extra lenses or my flash I take this little extra guy.
