Yelling slogans at people is a bad way to change their minds. But showing up at neo-Nazi rallies is not about changing the minds of neo-Nazis, it’s about showing them that this is not their country, and that people are willing to stand up to them. I don’t think anyone who’s encountered a member of the far right (on

Well said.

Jennifer Jason Leigh talked about her sister having a similar life in her Jez interview. She says she still has a hard time grasping why somebody would choose such a hard life, but at a certain level it can choose you.

I don’t like prostitution.

I grew up around cops. Most police when I was a kid were former juvenile delinquents. They had a lot of experience with police, many of whom tried to help them. Or they worked for towns and utility companies and saw the job as an upgrade.

Being white and stupid is good enough

If you get ANY joy out of being violent you should not be a police officer.

Sadly, Americans don’t even give a crap that we stole the homes/property of innocent US citizens and imprisoned them because of their Japanese heritage. It’s almost a footnote when discussing FDR’s legacy if it’s mentioned at all.

The best way I’ve heard it described is “they lost the Civil War, but won Reconstruction.”

The problem is, as other people have pointed out, that the whole idea of a “stalemate” is a victory. The Confederates weren’t trying to conquer the North, they just wanted to break away. Which means that if the Union couldn’t conquer the South, then the South won by definition.

Why is Confederate unpalatable, but Man in The High Castle received such positive reviews? There are actual victims of German and Japanese slavery during the war who are still alive. If one is verboten, so should the other. If not, let’s wait until the execution of the show to see whether it should be excoriated.

I don’t believe “Confederate” is going to be the Alt-right love fest people are speculating it will be. If it can be done right with The Man in The High Castle and The Handmaiden, I’m sure it can done well here. TMITHC and The handmaiden doesn’t glorify Nazis or misogynistic alternate worlds. If anything, they do the

Why is this beyond the pale but geek media loved “The Man in the High Castle?” This doesn’t have to be a rhetorical question because I found the premise of “The Man in the High Castle” so offensive that I didn’t watch it, so maybe there’s a difference.

My coach does CrossFit (she is also a certified CrossFit Coach) and recently competed in a regionals-level competition. In some ways CrossFit scares the crap out of me, but people who rock it are incredible athletes!

nice work! my wife is currently getting into bigger lifts via crossfit. We’ve both kinda of recommitted ourselves to being healthier in the past few years. It’s a good train and i’m super proud of her. She’s a beast.

It really does. A loving relationship is a lot of hard work, especially emotionally. People discount emotional labour all the time, but you have to both be completely open to the person you love and be open to them in turn. That’s way harder than people realize, especially when we all have other things impinging on

Thank you very much for this comment.

hmmmmmmmm, though it’s sort of adorable to imagine a version of me that would stop doing something simply because my boyfriend wanted me to, that’s not what happened here.

Uh, or it was just a person who cared about her telling her what she deep down already knew. Not everything has to be so problematic. Sometimes people just care about each other’s wellbeing.

You probably won't believe me, but I really like that game.
