First, defeating fascism was nothing close to "obvious". How do you then explain the popular spread of fascism (Germany, Italy, Spain, Vichy France). Also the totalitarian Soviet empire which was fascist in practice (if not ideology). The survival of liberal democracy was anything but obvious.

Why should we? We will be branded racists just the same. This election proves that there are two Americas. We don't believe the other side is misguided or ill-informed. We believe the other side is evil and (to quote Hillary) "irredeemable." This does affect both sides. And it is poisonous for our country.

Let's not forget that many of our grandfathers gave their lives in war defeating fascism and (ultimately) socialism. And they built the great middle class of America. We could do a hell of a lot worse than emulating that generation.
