If you really, really object to a business's practices, you can opt out. Just because the vast majority of people don't hold the same objections doesn't mean you are denied a choice.

A car payment and a mortgage is secured by a real asset (a house, a car). A politician wouldn't recommend running up credit card debt or student loans.

None of these things are "needs". A computer wasn't a "need" until the 1990s. Same with a car. Presumably a computer is better than no computer, or a bad car is better than no car. But you still exercise a choice.
