They are democratic insofar as each consumer votes with their dollars. If you don't like something at Apple/Google/GM, don't buy their products. Consumer pressure has changed business far greater and faster than the ballot box. (See, e.g., support of gay marriage by Fortune 500 companies.)

That's not entirely accurate. They generate revenue and provide a valuable service/good. Because of the profit motive, businesses are typically more responsive to actual consumer needs, because information comes from the ground up. Top-down, centralized government tries its best to provide services. Sometimes they

Maybe change the name of the list to "User's Favorite Movies"?

Well, that looked awful.

Don't be too sure. Trump is polling well. He will compete for blue collar votes. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Amazingly, he has a really good shot at being the next President. People who don't take him seriously do so at their own peril.

I'm not. I've never supported sexism. I just don't see sexism here. 80% of top actors work with women directors. That sounds pretty good—at least a B-minus. That's not sexism in my book. This is a much more complex issue than just blaming some phantom sexism. My wish of good luck was sincere. I just don't see

Actually, I would argue "all of the above." I don't see how they're inconsistent. You haven't proven sexism. You don't like the status quo. That's fine. But this statistic that 20% of top actors haven't worked for women means nothing. And there are more convincing alternative explanations than sexism. And the

Then start a new club. Get a couple of friends (or several hundred) together, put up $50-$100 million, and make a movie with a female director. It's that simple. Don't expect other investors to change their strategies based on guilt.

What is the remedy? Should Hollywood producers be forced to hire women directors? It's easy to say this because it feels good, but you're not investing in one of these films. The choice to hire a director is not like hiring an employee at a Fortune 500. The margin for error is too high given the investment. You want

Gender imbalance maybe, but sexism? Most films are made by investors who want to make money. They don't choose directors based on their sex, but their track record of success, availability, compatibility with the project, etc. All of this is intended to boost profits. Maybe this system is tilted toward established

I'm impressed that 80% of the top 100 male stars *have* worked with female directors, given how sexist hollywood is (allegedly).

The similarities are that the technologies got way ahead of military strategies in both the Civil War (better rifles/cannons) and WW1 (mustard gas/machine gun). That and in both wars, the belligerents believed the war would be short. These together made both wars far, far more bloody than anyone could have predicted.

This makes sense. Whistling/comments is unquestionably rude. But it can also be creepy/threatening to some people. Regardless of intent. So err on the side of not doing it. Got it.

This is not intended to be a trolling, MRA comment. But, respectfully, what are the rules here? I think something like aggressive, in person come ons (especially where the guy is unrelenting) is grossly inappropriate and threatening. Physical touching of any kind is beyond the line. And vulgar comments would be

Seems like a very selfish way to engage in sex. An arms lengths transaction where people are a means to an end.

Meh…I think children have a lot to do with it. Prior to the invention of the birth control pill, straight couples never had a truly reliable option to avoid pregnancy. Sex and children and family were fused. When kids are involved, stability and monogamy are much more important. Gay couples never had this issue.

I have little interest in irony or sexism, so I'll pass.

If you can take advantage of a situation in some way, it's your duty as an American to do it. Why should the race always be to the swift, or the Jumble to the quick-witted? Should they be allowed to win merely because of the gifts God gave them? Well I say, "Cheating is the gift man gives himself."

May I see it?
