Competent to stand trial means just that - that you’re competent and can assist in your own defense. Not that you are / aren’t mentally ill.

I mean, that’s sort of a weirdly black and white argument, isn’t it? I don’t like tomatoes typically, but if they’re in a nice marinara sauce I can make an exception. That doesn’t mean i’m secretly pro-tomato and lying to myself, good lord. I don’t like the death penalty bc of racial bias leading to unjust…
His defense attorney: “Consider the mad energy, the senselessness...”
I honestly don’t get this argument. People who are going to prop him up as doing some great thing will regardless if he gets life or the death penalty. I don’t hear the Bundy’s and their ilk going on about Timothy McVeigh. I think what Roof has done is too horrific to not be reviled by most Americans.
Actually, after re-reading and looking up his charges, I realize I was mistaken. He was charged with a shit-load of hate crimes that fall under the Mathew Shepard and James Bird Jr. Act, and covers race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
“Thoughts and Prayers. Also, doesn’t Ivanka have a great body?”
Well, they decided that the victims were killed because of their religion, not their race (hahaha) so it’s ok to convict this guy.
Fuck him, but fuck the death penalty too. People who seek cognitive closure for other people’s actions have a toe on the Just World Fallacy border. Not cool.
“ I like people who weren’t shot.”
He was deemed competent to stand trial. By an actual doctor, as opposed to an internet commenter. Or do you just not care?
Everybody dies. Let him suffer and remember.
Based on the charges, it seems like he’s being charged with hate crimes based on the victims’ religion, when he killed them because of their race, not their religion. It may not seem like it makes a difference, but it really does, especially since Faux News and similar entities attempted to push this as a crime…
Now can we call him a terrorist?
“Victims didn’t try hard enough to get away. Sad. I would have stopped him.”
I prefer to be comforted in 140 characters or less when a national tragedy happens
Oh for fucks sake dude. It’s not a mental illness to be an angry white man.
I bet it will be in tweet form.
Right? When I read that the jury had come back already I felt so sure that it mean it was a guilty verdict... but then, 2016, so you know. There’s no logic here.
I need an opposite of the “Fry shocked” gif that is for when you have that “I’m not surprised. Not surprised at all. Okay I’m a little surprised.” feeling...
