George Eastman didn’t merely “pass away”; he shot himself in the chest, leaving a note that read simply “To my friends, my work is done – Why wait? GE.”

Wait, where in the US is it legal for individual apartments to not have their own breaker? That's been mandatory in NYC for a hundred years.
Klezmer music seems like an odd choice for this video.
Friday fun fact: the dead-end elevated highway in the last photo is the only remaining remnant of the West Side Elevated Highway. It was obsolete as soon as it was completed:
As someone who has never owned a car, that engine infographic kinda makes me want to get one. So cool. I always assumed terms like "V8" were just Marketing nonsense like "horsepower" or "JD Power & Associates."
Listen, I'm no defender of Walmart but if you're worried about unemployment I'd think you'd prefer Walmart to win this price battle and keep more people employed. Amazon's entire business model revolves around employing as few actual humans as possible. The humans they do employ are based in specific geographic…
Power strips look pretty ugly in a nice bathroom. Personally, I'll spend a little more on a toilet seat to declutter an already small space.
For many of us in pre-war buildings, all we have available is one outlet. That outlet is usually occupied by a hair dryer, fan or other device.
Ha. Well, I certainly won't disagree with you that the WTC, transit hub and plaza are all missed opportunities. True. True.
Showtime definitely is not going that route. For one, they have no output deal with any major movie studio so no one is subscribing to Showtime purely for the movies. On the Showtime original series front, they are clearly pursuing a strategy of selling the shows off into syndication at a high price. Showtime's…
Well it's a very cool tool but there's a significant drawback here . . . it only shows the completion date of buildings still standing. That's the only reason you see almost nothing built before 1900. Much of Manhattan below 34th was blanketed with 2-4 story structures by 1880.
Definitely has nothing to do with HBO. Note the "inspired by Game of Thrones" line in the endcard . . . and the fact that there was an endcard at all!
It's in the 1891 map . . . just wayyyy off from where it actually is.
I like old stuff too (I live in a 90 year old building) but the reality is that older buildings and offices were not constructed in a way that jives with how people want to live and work today. Families dont want to share a bathroom with other families in their building . . . companies want open floorplans to…
So you would prefer suburban sprawl? People have to live/work somewhere.
Every time you drop a pan, the fish will dart into the glass.
The problem is the massive amount of energy used by 3D printers. Yes, some of these items are cool . . . but they'd still look cool if produced via injection molding or some other legacy mass production technology. Save 3D printing for one-off items that need to fit a specific purpose. Until the technology…
As long as the polling intervals continue to be as long as 15 minutes, most IFTTT triggers and actions will continue to be curiosities. Awesome, awesome curiosities. Love the potential.
Their problem was hiring Hadid in the first place. Her designs are built around the premise that future building users won't need to adapt the facade or interior layouts. When you're building a stadium that needs to last decades and host varied events, hire an architect who knows how to create workable spaces and a…
I made sizable profits on both my apartments. The NYC housing market is an anomaly; factors that would be deterrents in other markets are just not as huge a deal here.
