I was definitely worried about the Franchise-ification of TLOU after the first game because I was in the same camp that, while not a satisfying or ‘traditional’ ending, it was an ending enough that I was okay with my visit to that world and didn’t need to return. That makes sense! I knew of the Yoshi-P comments, which were interesting to hear a I grew up with JRPGs as my gateway to gaming so was completely oblivious to the interpretation he was referring to.

The end goal of all of this *IS* the reduction of artistic labor...as in literally using this technology as an excuse to hire fewer people and pay them less. This has been the playbook since the first textile machine for chrissake!

Pretty much. New games have to break CoD numbers and be franchise viable or it’s not even worth the effort for most AAA studios. “Perfectly Serviceable And Fine” is what gets studios shuttered these days.  :(
