Modern Allroads use a turbo inline 4. Timing chains aren’t that complicated and the engines are fairly robust compared to the old A6 based models.  

Also older cars like the beetle were mostly made of metal, including interior bits.   Tougher to do now with airbags and crash standards but metal does not degrade with time and UV light like modern plastics.   

F30/F31 door pulls have same issue. Many are replacing due to disintegration.  My 2014 is starting to get a bit sticky.

Yep. The photos these look to be cheap 90’s McMansions.  They were typically built super cheap.   Exterior wall is 2x6 lumber if your lucky and sheathing is nothing more than cellulose fiber board with vinyl siding over it. You could swing a bat through the wall.

Most cheap home builders in the 90’s and early 2000’s were only using OSB at the corners for lateral bracing and used that cheap foam fiberboard sheathing product everywhere else. Interesting chart for the Ecoboost.  Had no idea.   Looks very different than the twin scroll in my BMW which comes on smoother and stays fairly flat.   Maybe since most of Fords sales are trucks, they are thinking more of towing when designing their engines?

Definitely need off road ability to reach 88 mph.   By my estimation peak road was reached in the middle of the 20th century.   Roads were terrible before and are now becoming terrible again.
