Modern Allroads use a turbo inline 4. Timing chains aren’t that complicated and the engines are fairly robust compared to the old A6 based models.
Also older cars like the beetle were mostly made of metal, including interior bits. Tougher to do now with airbags and crash standards but metal does not degrade with time and UV light like modern plastics.
F30/F31 door pulls have same issue. Many are replacing due to disintegration. My 2014 is starting to get a bit sticky.
I agree with you on looks, but some of these hot hatches are legitimately fast. The European Golf R doesn’t have a limiter and goes 166.
My 65 year old mother was looking at CPO CUV’s this past weekend and I pushed her hard towards a CX-5 or a CX-3. She test drove them and ended up buying a 2016 CR-V because shockingly she thought the Mazda interiors felt cheap.
Indeed. He is 4 months old and aspires to grow into a much larger dog. I have not had the heart to tell him that 20 lbs is all he can hope for.
The Chevy SS is attainable, has 4 doors and the same engine configuration as the Bentley Arnage. And it is faster.... yet you don’t see people cross shopping them just because of these facts. Better is different than Better Value.
Agree regarding pretense but the Ford is objectively better in almost every statistic except price. It is apples and oranges. Design/appearance matters more than speed when you are spending six figures.
Yep. The photos these look to be cheap 90’s McMansions. They were typically built super cheap. Exterior wall is 2x6 lumber if your lucky and sheathing is nothing more than cellulose fiber board with vinyl siding over it. You could swing a bat through the wall.
Most cheap home builders in the 90’s and early 2000’s were only using OSB at the corners for lateral bracing and used that cheap foam fiberboard sheathing product everywhere else. Combined with vinyl siding, you have an exterior wall you could put your fist through. Not to mention the other corners that were often…
I care due to my cities pothole issue. Never damaged a wheel in 25 years of driving until I bought my GTI with 40 series tires. One pothole destroyed two tires.
Interesting chart for the Ecoboost. Had no idea. Looks very different than the twin scroll in my BMW which comes on smoother and stays fairly flat. Maybe since most of Fords sales are trucks, they are thinking more of towing when designing their engines?
Definitely need off road ability to reach 88 mph. By my estimation peak road was reached in the middle of the 20th century. Roads were terrible before and are now becoming terrible again.
This is the right answer. Surprised Torch missed the fact that electric cars have their own built in generators. Pretty easy to rig to a water wheel.
I was T-boned like 4 years ago driving to work by a car going 60 thru a light. Destroyed my Odyssey and pinned me against a stop light so I had to crawl out thru the back window. Slow motion feeling was similar
Iceland had a law that held beer to something like 2% up until recently. They turned those lemons into lemonade by making their own drink which is 2% beer spiked with Icelandic Vodka. Called bjórlíki.
Semi Autonomous and uses renewable fuel but the emissions are.... tough to deal with.
Have you driven a modern Turbo? My 2.0T 328i wagon makes like 90% of its torque at 1800 rpm. Pretty easy to keep it above 2k when driving and you get a nice steady throttle response and super broad torque curve. Yes, below 2k it is not linear. Before this I had a 2015 GTI that had similar characteristics although…
Certainly a complicated ownership chain, but of course because Germany. Porsche SE was the new name of the merger between VW and Porsche. Interestingly they only own like 30% of VAG with other large owners includIn the German government and middle eastern hedge funds.
