Well put. Took my son to the NHRA nationals last year here in Indy. I have never been to a drag race. The sound shook my sons water bottle off the bleachers. You actually get a fight or flight adrenaline reaction each time they go by.

Car design has evolved based in the function. Genders to protect the wheels. Hood to conceal a large IC engine. Large greenhouse to provide passenger space while allowing visibility. Trunk/hatch to protect cargo.

Gen X’er here who has done multiple cross country road trips with a minivan full of my own children. They usually have to go to the bathroom every hour and I’m not going to remember 5 orders.. so going inside is still better.

I believe the same.  This was 5-6 years ago.  Not that it matters the body won’t last for another 160,000 miles

Yes.  But assume the tech and battery management software has improved in 14 years.

It uses Lithium batteries.   Probably only an issue if you plan to drive a super car 200,000 miles.

My son drives my wife’s old 2006 Civic hybrid which we bought from new. Battery needed replaced at 160,000 miles.   This was archaic battery tech, not modern Lithium based.  Cost $2500 to replace.   Didn’t feel bad doing it as it was the only unscheduled cost the car ever incurred and it is now at 220,000 miles.

Maybe in theory, but they also tend to be fairly reliable despite the complexity. The brakes last forever due to regen braking. Transmission and ICE engines tend to be under low stress due to the torque of the electric engines helping out. Electric drivetrain components are fairly simple.  A lot of old Prius and

I still remember lusting after the 93 Z28 in Car and Driver when it came out.   275 horsepower in a car so accessible seemed incredible.

Agree it will always be a question....in this case the Audi offers more distinct exterior styling, probably anniversaries interior.... and AWD.

Also AWD and a nicer interior on the Audi. I would say nicer exterior also.

I’m about to buy a 2014 328i touring and the potential maintenance cost brings me to a cold sweat so your comment is comforting.

I believe the regulation is that there needs to be crumple space between the top of the engine and the hood.

It is actually not beside the point.   Remove both sets of subsidies and the $10k premium for electric cars might be balanced out if people are paying $8/gallon for their expensive ICE vehicle.

Wow, car brand snobbery and homophobia all wrapped up in one short comment!  I’m sure you are popular in middle school locker rooms!

Thanks.   My wife is a Social Work professor and I drive a GTI.

None of the practicality?  The Stinger and VW Arteon have enormous cargo areas when you fold the seats down. Can fit multiple bicycles, or sleep back there.   A lot tougher with a trunk, even with seats folded.

It is not as much that the CVT is different, which it is... but it also has torquey electric motors to enhance the hybrid performance.
