The amount of children being fed into the US adoption system who have severe attachment disorders is very concerning. The behaviours described here are common among children who received almost no affection in early childhood.

I think of it this way: which skills are you willing to surrender to technology? Rarely will you not have access to spell check and dictionaries, but you might also be giving up thorough knowledge of how language works and a certain degree of literacy. If you’re comfortable with that, fine. Same with calculators, GPS,

A friend of mine campaigned door-to-door for the income tax initiative in WA a few years ago. Keep in mind that this was only to be applied to earnings over $200,000. Most people could mot be convinced because they thought they would earn that at some indeterminate time in the future, not Now, and with no clear sense

I would love to see Bill Gates or Warren Buffett set aside a couple billion to run a program like this in Seattle or Omaha. Really put their money where their mouths are.

This kind of willful ignorance is painful. Just admit, improve, and do better.

I’m sorry to hear about your horse. Watching that video, I am amazed that the horse didn’t actually buck and no one got kicked in the head.

How about my rescue bichon? The ultimate pooch!

My husband wanted a big dog for hiking and camping with. Turns out our bichon can do 20 k easily. Super portable and easy to bring most places (appropriate to bring dogs) and quite sturdy. Can spend the day chilling if needed. Keep the fluff at a reasonable length and you’ve got a pretty good dog all around.

But his comments as of late reveal that perhaps it wasn’t intended parody...

One of the people behind several incidents listed for my field had thectemerity to show up to and comment during a workshop on dealing with harassment.

My response to that is to question how many English departments there are. My field has roughly the same amount as Chemistry, but there are many more Chem departments, suggesting a higher concentration of harassers per department in my field.

And yet I manage to enjoy close friendships with my male coworkers because we interact as peers. How do you bond with your male colleagues? Try that. And if it’s not appropriate to do with your female colleagues, you probably shouldn’t be doing it with the men either.

And that entry is good for a week!

Does anyone else think of Todd Palin as the male, redneck Melania?

I just can’t with this nonsense. Ancient peoples were for the most part far more comforatble with metaphor and allusion than we are. They didn’t need dicks everywhere to think about fertility. (Although sometimes they did.)

I am a married woman who has worked in several male-dominated workplaces and has many male friends. There has never been a misunderstanding, nor have my friends or colleagues felt the need to touch me in an uninvited way or harass me. I make a point of socializing with my male colleagues so that I won’t miss out on

This attitude makes me so angry. If it is so utterly beneath you to rescue your own child from their excretions, you are selfish and vile, not to mention treating your partner like a servant.

You’re also suggesting that any child she might carry would be the Messiah, you heretic!

I’m so ahead of this-my dad’s childhood rural chirch was shut down, and we stored the vestements for a while. I used to sneak down and play dress-up in them ALL THE TIME.
