I completely agree that fandom and religion are fundamentally the same thing (“new” or “old” is arguable, I think they’re literally the same thing — that religion is a particularly fanatical form of fandom that requires literal belief in the source material), but that doesn’t mean that either is inherently toxic. In essence there is no true gay character in the series as far as romances are concerned.

There are two, actually - both in the last installment of the trilogy, and neither an active team member, but still very much there. Samantha Traynor and Steve Cortez. Both are romanceable, but only if you’re the same gender as

Man do I wish Judge Judy would question that bastard. He’d find out what real crying is like pretty damn quick...

Exactly. If he hadn’t immediately jumped to “No, I’ve always been a perfect little choir boy and have never done anything wrong”, I personally would feel a lot less anger toward him/his appointment. At least, if only the first two stories were true and he apologized. Not sure even an admission of wrongdoing would fix

Ugh. No, no it is not.

Disturbingly, Landis claims he believes the “Fairy Lives Don’t Matter” line was an ad-lib by Smith himself. Gross.

The thing I love about this series is how in the end, you really can’t classify anything as pure good or evil. Even the Reapers were doing what they believed to be the best thing for the galaxy — in essence, saving us from destroying ourselves by...destroying us. But the care they took in preserving the genetic
