You make a fair point. Failure is a regular part in life - yet our educational system is build around a one-off proving system. You get 1 test, 1 grade - you fail? Too bad for you gotta do the whole thing again.

Developing spatial awareness, critical thinking skills, problemsolving skills, dealing with failure (and learning from failure) as opposed to a blind result-driven cram-session and a variety of other skills that are obtained through gaming do most definitely act beneficially for many a gamer.

I agree. This and Use of Weapons are my two favorite Culture books. Really wish Banks were still here writing these.
