Take Ohio for example... there’s a strong market for used trucks, Mercedes, Jaguars, etc. But no one can afford NEW ones. $45k/year is considered a good salary around here. Because we don’t buy many of those cars new AND we have rust issues rusting out older cars, there’s a really strong market for used trucks and high

Great platform for ChumpCar/Lemons Racing.

I pick up 88 formulas as parts cars any time I find one for a good deal!

I’m a bit confused here.

You don’t know how much WALMART paid APPLE for the iPhone that they sell to you for $1000.

Just like you don’t know how much your DEALER paid FORD for the FOCUS they sell to you for $XXX.

You do know MSRP for BOTH the iphone and the ford Focus, that is fairly public information.

in fact I think

You overestimate customers.

I can’t believe how MAD people get when they find out that dealers mark up cars a few thousand bucks.

Its a business people... making $3000 on a car markup is not “highway robbery”.

I think they would be MORE hostile.

I disagree about seeing it. $300? more like $800 and some of us have a hard time getting vacation days. I get 5 and don’t live near an airport hub (so everything is connecting). I’m not using 2 of my 5 vacation days, therefore missing out time with my family, to look at a car.

I just do this:
1. 3rd party PPI
2. Stalk

I offered $900 under the ask price on a used dodge. I was told there was no haggle room.

So the next day i get a phone call from the dealer that they dropped the price about $2100. ($1200 under my offer price)

so I bought it.

I don’t know why they didn’t just call me and accept my offer!

My kids getting close to driving age...

I was thinking of buying her a Miata or BRZ because they are small, can’t fit a lot of other kids in them, tight, and come with a stick making it tougher to text and drive... plus they handle well.

I don’t get excited about it either.

I find it kind of odd. I know it performs darn well, but in a way its a great value, like its the poor mans exotic.

Now before you start throwing $250k price tags to me, EVERY Porsche 911 owner I know, which is a fair handful, tells me they bought the porsche for the PRACTICALITY. In

I watched this.
I own a porsche.
I have no idea what the trims are.

I mean seriously, I’m even more confused now.

I feel like I was just told “carerra = Base, S = top trim, T is in the middle”

OK got that.

“GTS is the top trim”

OK I thought the S was the top trim. But I’ll go with the GTS. I guess that means the GTS > S?

“GT3

I am guilty of this right now...

there’s a hugely overpriced vehicle in my neighborhood because my wife said we need to sell it.

I told her its almost winter! No one buys cars right before winter! That’s CLEARLY why no one has asked to come see it.

Oh yeah, and I might have accidentally posted it on the wrong part of

Its the same ads I’ve used in other places like CL-

I mean maybe, but I found it really really odd. Autotrader used to be “where its at”.

I have some cars on autotrader that have been on there for ages.

Never got a SINGLE lead on any of them.

I listed my truck on it. No leads after several weeks, and I sold it on CL to a Dealer.

Then I tried again with my next car. Never got a lead, so after I sold my car I thought, “lets see if its the price” so I started

FB marketplace is where I’ve had all my luck lately.

its the new craigslist.

I started letting people “finance” on CL for low dollar cars and it works well. the important thing for me though is that I won’t let them have the car until its paid for.

Ask them what they really mean by financing. When I sold my motorcycle the guy asked me if he could give me $1000 today, $1000 next week, and $1200

Carmax offers SO MUCH MORE than anyone else it isn’t funny. Every car we’ve ever run across them they pay a ton.

Why waste your time selling it anywhere else when carmax overpays it? I don’t get why they pay so much.

here’s what I guess:
1. it depends on the car. If its a car they will sell, they pay above auction value.

What if you think killing cats is the ETHICAL thing to do, and sparing them is unethical?

a 4 door hatchback/sedan/whatever. “sportback”? as a lot of them call it?

It competes in the large sedan market, so my point was of all the cars it competes against- which are all sedans- I believe its the best looking.

One number is quoted after tax, one before tax, but us ‘mericans have no idea what euro taxes are like.

Can anyone weigh in on what the tesla is AFTER tax or what the Taycan is BEFORE tax?

If its like canada, taxes are like 15%, but if its like the US of A, it could be 4-5%. Thats a big difference.

YES.

Its surprising actually...

I bought a porsche once.

It was like base headlights, + 4000 for upgraded headlights, +5000 for even more upgraded headlights with auto headlights. Yes auto headlights were like a 9000 option when its free and included on a Hyundai....

I bring that up because they are really good at making base cars pretty daggone base.
