For all that power, the phone is still brought to its knees by Kotaku’s ads.

The industry may have forgotten about analogue face buttons, but only Nintendo seems to have given up on analogue triggers. XBox One and PS4 have them, for example, and they make.a.world of difference to racing games.

Which is a shame because the deep analog triggers for the GC felt great. Even a game like Sonic R (on the Sonic Gems Collection) was improved from "so bad" to "it's still bad but at least it's controllable" by taking advantage of them with some really good sweet-spot drifting mechanics.

Super Mario All Stars:

It’s going to be $90 in two years. Could be a one print run like Metroid Trilogy.

“Nobody is buying this in Japan.”

“The S doesn’t look like a problem, but the X seems so big that it will be hard to find a place near the TV to put it.” Shh. No one tell him about PS5. He'll faint.

I guess these count as Japanese “gamers”? A lot of these guys sound just as stupid as western “gamers” do. Finding some arbitrary reason to not be interested in an Xbox console just means you’re an asshole.

If you look there at the side of the PS4, you’ll understand why I feel like consoles really should be looking more like mini PCs than they do. I’m not a Microsoft guy, but goddamn if this big ass pillar isn’t a breath of fresh air after 15 years of losing consoles to cooling issues.

I don't know why this feels like the best piece of news today but I'm living for it. Good on them PS3 MGS players.

That’s not the launch ps1 though. The original launch ps1 was grey af.

I don’t think there could have been better news from this reveal and this is how I feel right now...

I’m staring at my launch PSOne. Even with age, you can obviously see the system wasn’t anywhere close to white.

Oh, I didn’t mean any of the Playstation designs, though I do think the PS2 Slim is a really handsome machine. I meant more like the early Walkman designs, and a few other personal media devices they’ve made. Then you have a look at some of their Discman designs, and yeah, not so good.

Tip, when you get to them: play the Dark Souls games in order. People will tell you to start with 3, and those people are wrong.

That trailer stirs some very old trauma. The shiny eyed skeletons, the dude with the scythe, the OG swamp area, half HP in soul form with no reasonable way to get that back. Yuck. Not sure if I want to go through that again.

I hope they change carry weight so I can horde all the armor, hated having non equipped gear weigh me down.

God, the original Xbox interface might have the most “of its time” aesthetic of any game console ever.

Modern Vintage Gamer (who formally went by the alias lantus) was fairly big the homebrew scene for the original Xbox. For instance, he was the programmer that got Project64x running along with being part of the xSnex9x team. Point is, he has a unique perspective and released a video about this topic yesterday, worth a

Seeing that old Xbox UI made me feel so nostalgic
