I really liked the detail that Hannibal left surgery after a patient died on his operating table. I know there's irony in that, of course, but it still makes sense—in his mind, someone dying on his table would be a failure, and the ever-competent Hannibal can't abide failing at something.
I don't think anyone thinks the society woman is the same character as she played in Pushing Daisies—it's just the same actress.

I can handle almost anything terrible happening to bodies in horror movies and TV, but not eyes. Especially when bad things happen to eyes suddenly or unexpectedly. Couldn't watch that part at all.
