Audi announced they were going to use this technology last month. BMW first announced they were going to use laser lights on the i8 back in 2011..3 years ago, and now in 2014 the production version of the i8 will be the first car with laser lights.

No doubt the aftermarket will get ahold of this and release a variety of kits to make poorly-focused lights in all kinds of stupid colors. Because LASERS.

Yes, the Audi is smaller dimensionally in pretty much every category in comparison to the Golf, it's more Polo-sized. Though interestingly enough, the S1 is reported to be something of a porker - 2600 lbs, or thereabouts.
