I'm not claiming how things are done now are correct. Maybe I'm being pedantic, but I don't think taking an allegation seriously and investigating the matter is the same thing as believing the story. I totally agree though that rape victims are not taken seriously, amd thst is horrible.

I’m not claiming the way we handle rape allegations is okay. I’m saying that in the case of a stolen laptop, you don’t just assume it’s true. You also don’t tell the potential victim it’s their fault, or tell them they actually gave away the laptop, and that it wasn’t stolen.

I completely agree. However the problem isn’t about believing the victims story, it’s that we don’t take it seriously in the case of rape. I completely agree that the way rape cases are handle are deplorable, I just find the wording of “believe their stories when they tell them” problematic.

Uh no offense taken? I never claimed that's how rape cases are handled? Usually they're dismissed and no one bothers to try and find any evidence, or the victim is blamed...

Even in the case you report a laptop stolen immediately, they’ll probably check the person for a laptop If they don’t have it, they most likely aren’t getting arrested. Even then you still wouldn’t believe their story whenever they tell it. You would at least check if they have the laptop, there would be some burden…

Agreed. The mechanism may be more similar to a traditional manual gearbox that a torque converter auto... But you do not manually (I.e. Physically/mechanically, as opposed to electronically) operate the transmission. It is done AUTOMATICALLY by the computer.

In a manual you MANUALLY manipulate the gearbox and clutch through manual(I.e. Physical/mechanical, not electrical) methods.
