I mean, I don't think the fact they don't have something in that segment means that they are going to for sure make a rotary. However they already have developed a engine for that category and have a history of doing so.... that said I'd also be plenty happy if they come out with a non-rotary sports car.

You obviously know very little about debating. I never claimed the miata and the smart are the same category. I clearly used it as a counterpoint to your claim that the MX5 is a sports car, and the mini as a counterpoint that focus on handling doesn't make it a sports car.

Pretty much all FD's out there are owned by a loving caring rotary head who wouldn't trade their life for the car, or have been beat on and probably don't run.... plus they aren't cheap and even if you find one, keeping it running is going to be very pricey. So I get why people want Mazda to re-release the FD, however

Even with free healthcare, there's a good chance you're dead. I'd argue that nothing on your car will cost as much as your life.

Let me go ahead and quote you:

Fair, not everyone. However just like exposed fasteners on the new Corvette, it's a pretty common thing for people to hate on.

The MX5 has 167-hp.

I think what they would call it all just come down to semantics.

As an RX8 owner... My SO has owned two A4's and has to put oil into it almost as often as I add oil to my car.

I'd also be happy with an RX8 with the 16x and the new Kodo styling.

I agree mostly, minus the part about the sound. Rotaries sound fantastic.

A small, light, convertible, RWD roadster does not make it a sports car:

Hyundai? Kia is announcing the GT4 stinger. Subaru and Toyota have the twins that are pretty close to that territory(Also Toyota has been showing off the FT1). Chevy and Ford have the mustang and camaro. Audi is releasing the S3 soon, the CLA 45 will be a bit higher than that but at least in the ballpark.

I'd just like to point out that everyone complains the FRS doesn't have enough power as a sports car... and the miata has less. And is softer. And slower. And gets about the same mpg.

Yeah I was going to provide examples, but didn't want to just have a giant list. So I'll submit that not everything bellow is exactly 35k, however mazda doesn't make any sports cars except the miata. Although I'd say that something with 180-hp, 0-60 in 7 seconds today doesn't cut it as a sports car. However here you

That plus a longer stroke and I think higher compression all are promised to provide much better fuel efficiency and torque according to Mazda in the 16x. It's supposed to be a big step from the Renesis MSP. Unfortunately there is no car or money to put it into production.

Fair enough, however blowouts that make a car inoperable are pretty rare.

It's a roadster. You know, like, a british roadster. They weren't called british sports cars.

So I didn't read this whole thing yet, so sorry if these were already addressed....
