I saw Amber Tamblyn read poetry about Britney Murphy before a Youth Code concert once and she told us not to clap and it was very confusing

Everyone loves that movie but that movie just makes me angry because it has Lee Pace in it for absolutely no reason and wasting Lee Pace’s charms is a sin
Poor Lee Pace...
mother make me, make me a bird of prey
Eh, it works for me. As pretty as it might be I have to be in the right mood for all the flourishes of their music (obviously tastes will vary on this)
I’m really enjoying this after one listen, big step up from their first album (which I liked a lot too)
I am a beautiful, and complicated mystery
I think Trouble Will Find Me is their best album since Alligator, but it feels like a long ways removed from it - but I also don’t really think they’ve made anything bad.
I think my initial issue with Boxer is that it felt like they were trying to recreate Alligator, but, with more tools and not hitting the same mark. I’ve gotten over it and still really like it, but in comparison to their newer work Alligator just feels so simple and effective.
Yeah not sure why, I really like that first song but the rest sound... too the same? I dunno
Also super underrated on Alligator is Secret Meeting, whatever is going on at the end of it is magic and I’d love to have heard more of that.
Alligator will probably always be my favorite of theirs, but I still do love Boxer. I weirdly don’t even love Abel all that much, but I do miss there not being anything like Abel on their later albums.
This whole era/scene had some of my favorite drumming or at least drum mixing. The National, Interpol, the Walkmen, YYYs all have some real great drum sound
Boxer, and the national overall, is rad and this was cool to read.
we ain’t goin’ to the town we’re goin’ to the city
I can’t stop listening to Your Favorite Weapon what the hell is going on with me
I’ll go to bat for the run of Sung Tongs through Centipede Hz which I think is pretty underrated
“Some other groups are just one album away from five-albums contention (The National and Animal Collective seem like they’re on the verge)“
projected grade / BNM status for the new National?
Hell yeah I love Taiga, excited for this one
