When I used my debit card at the store, it wouldn’t read the chip. I had to swipe it instead. It still didn’t work. Finally, the cashier took a piece of a plastic bag and wrapped it around my card, swiped it for me, and it worked. No idea if the plastic bag made it work or if the cashier was just a germaphobe.

Wow, that’s visceral all right. My immediate response was “there goes so many years of intense practice and so many hopes for a future in gymnastics.” I feel so bad for her- the physical and emotional pain must be so overwhelming. :(
