Fun note, the brussels sprouts that (most) people grew up with, were different and were pretty terrible. It wasn’t until a different cultivar was found that wasn’t as bitter that everyone thought they were good.

I looked into this a while ago. Basically it should be “These may be extremely toxic, even in tiny quantities, or they can be completely fine”. The problem is you can’t tell until the dog eats them, and either gets super sick or doesn’t.
My problem with the Steakumms tweet, is that FFS, of course NdGT knows that. That sound bite was intentionally simple. It was meant to refute idiots that reject facts, and the scientific process. It doesn’t matter if you reject the science behind climate change, or if tobacco smoke causes cancer, that doesn’t change…
I agree. I made it through I think 2.0001 of the books, kind of waiting for it to get “good’, and instead I just stopped reading and have no real desire to get back.
From other things I’ve read, this is basically all a Google problem. If someone just posts the recipe, Google punishes their rank in the results. Which has caused people to add all the historical context to stay in the search results.
“Just tell your kids to take a nap”
Like others I use a lot of Evernote clipper for recipe “collection”. But in the kitchen I use a printed out OpenOffice document, with each recipe reformatted in my style. When the printouts get stained, or ripped up enough, I just reprint the whole thing and put in the binder again.
Also, I’ve professionally printed…
Because sites go away. I have a number of recipes bookmarked where the site is gone now. Some are on the Internet Archive, some are gone forever.
Similarly, my kids eat tacos over a tortilla to catch the droppings, then make a burrito.
Um... That’s not how you use a roof rake. You should stand in front of the building, and extend the roof rake, and pull off slices of snow off the roof. The are actually very effective. Usually only a little off the front is necessary, as the rest will slide down as the roof heats up. I’m guessing in this case, the…
20 minutes outside of any big city, and you are in the deep south.
I was just saying that I don’t think I ever see myself getting on a plane again without a mask. Probably for subways as well.
OK, I’ll take the bait, a bit I guess. :)
Yep, agreed, and long proof will get you that. Unless you were saying that with sourdough you have to knead a lot. Then I disagree. I never knead my sourdough. A fold it once an hour for 5 hours, then shape. I follow Bake with Jack’s method and it works great. https://www.bakewithjack.co.uk/blog-1/2018/7/5/s…
If you’re proofing overnight, you probably don’t need the full packet. I’ve done it overnight with 1/4 to 1/3 tsp yeast. Though I usually proof on the counter, not the fridge. The cold temps will encourage more sour lactic acid though, so it’ll have a different taste, (though still excellent).
First for context, a comment on the stock market part of the article. “The stock market is like gambling” is absolutely true when picking individual stocks. To get the long term investments gains, you should be investing for the long term with index funds for diversification.
I recommend including a drained/rinsed can of cannellini beans in the blender too. It makes a much firmer dip.
Yes, social distancing is a huge reason the R0 is lower. So is mask wearing. R0 is a dynamic metric based largely on how people react. Now that schools are back in session in many places, we’re seeing it play out. When you don’t practice social distancing, and mask wearing, you see big spikes. (Like the colleges where…
This is why a few years ago I started to always say “my spouse”, instead of gendered phrase.
Point of order. The comparison to March numbers I think is a poor one, and one I’ve had to explain to numerous people. The R0 in March was about 3, it’s now around 1. Which meant every person was infecting 3 more on average. And the rate of growth of growth. (So the delta of the log of the growth rate), was about 40%…
