I changed my oil a month ago with new synthetic then sucked up muddy water through a popped off vacuum hose, then had to change it again with more expensive synthetic oil. Oil changes are better than engine changes though.

ABS is great, but it won't make you impervious to skidding. If there's snow and/or ice on the ground, brake early and often.
