This is a good take. Martha Stewart looking hot, living her best life, being admired, is a nice thing. Nothing more than that.

I don’t pretend to know why they do anything. But for whatever it’s worth, several regular folks I know with similarly-aged kids posted cards their kids made at school with similarly cringey sentiments. There was a fill-in-the-blank “I love my mom because:___” answered “i dont know”, a “My mom is the best at:___"

Seems that would elevate the level of discourse at least.

I’m beginning to wonder if he's physically capable of shutting up.

I mean, it's obviously not OK to suggest that the teacher is at fault for not giving him more attention. But it could be that the kid's feeling, however unwarranted, triggered his actions, however disproportionate. There is obviously something very wrong with this kid, and I'd really like to know why there was even a

If there were any justice in this world, this would've been Steven Crowder's wife.

It’s more like the midpoint between “always awful” and “occasionally awful,” so... “often awful”?

Yeah I just read the NYT piece, and felt it had shades of Hunter S. Thompson. Like when he wrote about how the Hells Angels intimidated a mechanic out of his garage, only to leave the place cleaner than when they’d arrived (awww, how nice and surprising!) But then he gradually walked the reader toward the inevitable

You mean pay Mexico to take it off our hands?

Oh man I cannot wait for the parodies. Somebody do one with Coolio circa 1996!

I agree it’s probably not a wise decision for a trans person not to disclose before having sex with someone. But what do you think about the *ethics* of it? If the trans person is only giving oral sex to the other person, for example, it’s entirely possible to keep their own clothes on and not reveal anything. But

Thanks. I feel like a lot of these articles assume that I've 1) seen every single one of these movies 2) recently enough to remember every subplot in detail. I haven't seen Blockers and it's been so long since I saw Mean Girls I honestly can't remember the thing she's referencing.

Huh. It had never actually occurred to me that this show had writers.

They also believe--often correctly--that the laws they pass won't bind them should they ever, say, need an abortion.

Seems there are a few US states in which you can own otters. One of them is Florida, which is the best I can do as far as answering the “why.”

This guy was accused of using a butt phone to solicit minors in 2016, while he was serving a 28-year sentence for rape, and they *still* let him out in 2020, 11 years early?

Holy shit.

Thank you. I was worried my reaction meant I was just getting old.

It would be one thing if it were just about the legal decisions themselves. There’s a certain amount of free rein baked in to the process by design, which has historically served the greater good and the needs of the oppressed, even if it’s now doing the opposite. But all these scandals are making it clear this is not

Gawd, can you imagine? I would be worried they wouldn't even teach my kids to read these days.
