I just was looking for replies and saw yours, late — you ask a good question. First one must answer 'what is human?' and that is harder than it seems. Is it who we are now? Our DNA (of which about a tenth is different from everything else)? Most scientists consider Neanderthals 'human' for what it is worth — but still

Agreed agreed — 20 years in each of NorCal and Socal. Never call it Cali (like Frisco for SF, shudder) and don't really use NorCal either. Do use SoCal, and often in an ironic weathercaster tone of voice, "The Southland" which now that I think about it sounds kind of Game of Thronish.

Yes! I asked a younger woman at why she was putting up with crap she herself called, "dehumanizing" and "abusive" (not sexual, work overload) and she said, "Because I want to be liked?"

Yep, follow through, it is magical.

Yes, this. There have always been idiot parents. I served a family in Sizzler in the mid 80s where they let a toddler try and eat jello with a steak knife. Yes, I carefully removed it and gave her a spoon. However there may be more idiots now.

There is a difference between bride price and dowry, and that difference is what you are referring to.

Folk etymology is fun and all, but most readings of linguistics and culture would make it clear that something as important to humans as reproductive organs would have gotten their names earlier than, say, witnesses in a court of law.

"overall when you subscribe to one set of subjugation, I guess the rest just fall into place."

I remember that pearl stand!

If they talk the talk, but won't walk the walk, they are not fervent believers in the equality of the sexes.

Ugh I hear you. I just give them the side-eye in case they are even THINKING about waking me up early for a workout....

Great laugh!
