You’re right - it may be part of the update - it seems like it’s showing always when in 3-d mode, but not if you’re looking at it flat-on, and tap to locate, then tap the compass a couple times - it will go away. When you tilt the map it comes back up. Still like Waze’s police warnings better, but hate how it drains…
