I think there’s more to it than the writer on that site considered. He mentions that dirt or dust on the battery can cause the battery to discharge. But dirt and dust do not conduct electricity and have zero effect on the charge. Water with dirt and dust in it do, and concrete keeps the battery cooler and causes

This.  The result of the last time I got hit in a car with proper bumpers, at ~5mph was a shiny spot on my license plate, and the rubber strip on the bumper of the car that hit me was split. It probably cost the guy $50 and an hour or two to replace. Now, that’s a $3k repair bill.
