2007-2012 CX-7 had a 2.3 direct injection turbo with 244 hp. I guess the CX-9 is picking up where the 7 left off. I wondered if this turbo motor would find its way into the 9. I hadn’t realized the 7 was dropped from the line up. Hey Mazda, turbo everything!

I’d say wiring harness damage. German cars tend to have more wiring. Occasionally wiring can go bad. A small crack perhaps at the firewall is all it would take to intermittently short out a vital component.

I would guess more like $50k.

Sounds like it is overboosting. Small turbo. High loads. If the car registers over target boost for two seconds it will cause fuel cut. No codes are typically thrown but the car bucks violently when fuel is cut under load.
